CharacterName: Tarnist (nickname: Tarnia)
Age: HELLA OLD but appears like a young teenager.
Canon/AU/PG/Original: The Wizard's Cat
Personality/Background:★ Before Tarnist was born, there was a great magic war. Due to how the world works, a person's magic is materialized as gems (considered to be a Wizard's heart) and generally passed on to children when Wizards die. However, no babies after the war were born with magic powers... except Tarnist, who had the power of all those Wizard's combined.
★ Due to this, Tarnist became a target as a means to 'restore magic' to world. Luckily for him, he was also a Prince to a small kingdom and could afford to be protected. Unluckily, both his magic heart gem and his Mother was taken hostage until a time came where he would act as a 'sacrifice' to eternally leech magic from another world without any unnecessary deaths - Earth. This is literally something he would be called to do when the stars align just right.
★ This causes Tarnist to summon a cat familiar - essentially a magical body guard from yet another world, who has special endurance and healing abilities outside normal humans naturally. This cat was Hilario, who wanted to break his curse of immortality and live freely.
★ To do so, Tarnia promised to revoke the curse after 100 deaths protecting of him. All was going well until Hilario and Tarnia started to bond a little too much and Hilario learned about the whole hostage situation.
★ After failing to recover his mother and most of his heart, and with Hilario only having a few lives left, Tarnia starts to FREAK OUT because he doesn't want Hilario to die for his sake anymore and suffer Tarnia's fate being bound as an inevitable sacrifice. He exiles Hilario to the human world 'for his own good', and in the processes causes Hilario to reincarnate into a pair of twins called Rio and Mao.
★ Rio got the remaining immortality and underlying imprinted feelings for Tarnia, while Mao got the memories and identity issues.
★ Tarnia however is very lonely and ends up unable to endure it, so in a fit of selfishness he decides to summon Hilario back one last time before he inevitably goes to die. Except he gets Rio. Who remembers nothing.
★ Cue a lot of political shenanigans and Tarnia deciding to keep everything a secret because letting Hilario know things last time worked out SO WELL.
★ Except then Mao comes along and exposes everything and it's finally time for Tarnist to be sacrificed and saved by the twins. GOOD TIMES.
When first introduced, Tarnia comes off as sharp-tongued, demanding, and stern, as appropriate for a King. He's also extremely intelligent, out-going, pro-active, and somewhat of a workholic. This lends him a confidence that's not unlike a superiority complex.
That said, while Tarnist is bossy, he is also playful - though his sense of humor tends to be of a bullying nature where he can be smug, which is somewhat appropriate for his domineering personality. He also can have quite a temper when defied! Otherwise Tarnist tries to keep his emotions close, though finds it difficult to do so the closer he is with someone. Often Tarnia employs grand gestures when trying to show he appreciates, but when called out on his true emotions Tarnist can become easily embarrassed and fussy.
More than that, his closed off nature is partly due to how he's also scheming and secretive, seeing as he is trying to guard what is important to him (his country and his people) and essentially live his last days as happily as he is able. Don't let this fool you. At heart he is in fact very gentle and lonely, wanting to be able to retain the one special bond he truly had in his life, as well as protect his mother. It's noted that Tarnia has never truly lived for himself, always chained to his duty as King and Sacrifice, so summoning Rio to his side is essentially what he considers his 'dying wish', which he himself admits is very selfish of him.
When he's finally allowed to live freely, Tarnia opens up more and lets his natural gentleness and loving nature shine through - in particular, when he has his guard down he can be rather friendly and playful, particularly enjoying time with children and cats.
